BOHUSLAV MARTINŮ: EUTDES AND POLKAS

The thesis deals with the Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů and his petite compositions published in the Etudes and polkas compilation (1945). The work aims to: I. introduce Bohuslav Martinů as a significant composer of the Czech music scene, II. zoom at the etude and polka structure and music organisation through the historical development and essential characteristics, which will be conducive to a better understanding of etudes and polkas of the 20th century, III. prepare sufficient and user-friendly material for piano teachers to facilitate orientation within all the sixteen pieces, IV. offer a straightforward summary of various technical and other elements that might be met in music schools, V. tackle different ways of interpretation as well as the author's own experience regarding studying some of the pieces from the Etudas and polkas compilation. The bachelor's thesis predominantly offers historical and didactic correlative aspects. The viewpoint of the musical form and analysis is also incorporated; however, in seemingly minority compared to the first two areas mentioned. Methodological Specifics of Beginner Piano Teaching of Students of Different Ages

The thesis is concerned with methodological specifics of beginner piano teaching of students at different age levels. It attempts to give a complex view of its various aspects. The thesis is subdivided into several chapters, drawing on available psychological and methodological literature, piano course books and a questionnaire survey. The first chapter focuses on a beginner piano learner as an individual undergoing a particular stage of psychological development. It explores learners' general as well as music- specific characteristics and links these characteristics to piano playing. In addition, it describes motivational tendencies prevailing at different development stages, and other factors which can substantially influence the learning process, but have not hitherto been discussed with respect to piano teaching in greater detail although a pedagogue can more easily deal with potential problems that may arise at beginner levels when thoroughly informed. It namely discusses learning and teaching styles, hindrances to learning and learning disabilities. The second chapter is devoted to methodological specifics of teaching learners of different age groups. The third chapter then expands on the subject of beginner piano teaching specifics, comparing techniques used in beginner piano books aimed at various...

Methodology of Elementary Piano Teaching with Suggestion of Optimal Solution for Selection and Arrangement of Sheet Music

The beginnings of piano playing of children play an important role in laying quality pianistic groundings, which are crucial for their further pianistic development as well as for building their relationship with the instrument and music itself. This thesis is devoted to the study of elementary piano teaching of children aged 5-7 years. The aim of the thesis is to map the current state of piano pedagogy in Czech Republic and to propose optimal methodological procedures and solutions in the initial piano lessons based on modern pedagogical approaches and the needs of contemporary piano pedagogy. In five chapters of the work, this goal will be achieved by examining the historical background of piano schools in Bohemia over the centuries to this day, by setting up theoretical and practical bases for the researched issue and finally by research itself. Within the framework of practical bases, which served as a basis for subsequent research, an optimal methodological approach to teaching in the early stage of piano playing was proposed for children aged 5-7 years, which corresponds to the most modern requirements of the field.
